Turning on notifications
Get an alert the moment someone replies to you or mentions you, without having to check the app. Setup takes about one minute.
Notifications are a recent addition to LookLook and we keep refining them, so from time to time you may be asked to go through these steps again. It only takes a moment.
On iPhone
Apple requires one extra step on iPhone: adding LookLook to your Home Screen. After that, notifications work just like any other app.
- Open LookLook in Safari or Chrome (whichever you prefer) and sign in. Your study or chat link takes you there, or you can always sign in at login.looklook.app.
- When the notifications message pops up, tap Enable Notifications.
- A message will ask you to add LookLook to your Home Screen. Tap the share icon in your browser, then choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
- From now on, always open LookLook using the new icon on your Home Screen.
- Open it from that icon, sign in, and tap Enable Notifications when asked.
- When your iPhone asks “LookLook Would Like to Send You Notifications,” tap Allow.
Done! You’ll now see alerts on your lock screen and a red count on the LookLook icon when something is waiting for you.
On Android
No extra steps needed.
- Open LookLook in your browser and sign in (your invitation link works, or go to login.looklook.app).
- Tap Enable Notifications when asked.
- Tap Allow when your browser asks for permission.
On a computer
Works on both Windows and Mac, in any modern browser.
- Open LookLook in your browser and sign in (your invitation link works, or go to login.looklook.app).
- Click Enable Notifications when asked.
- Click Allow when your browser asks for permission.
Missed the message, or tapped “Not now” before?
You can start the setup again anytime, on any device.
- Sign in and open your profile settings.
- Check the box “Enable push notifications for important updates.” It sits just below the consent checkboxes, so you may need to scroll down to see it. The setup steps will start right away on that device.
This is also how you turn notifications on for a second device: just sign in there and check the same box.
Not getting notifications?
Work through these in order. Most issues are solved by the first two.
- On iPhone: are you opening LookLook from the Home Screen icon? Notifications only work through the Home Screen app, not a browser tab. If you don’t have the icon, follow the iPhone steps above.
- Is the box checked in your profile? Sign in, open your profile settings, and make sure “Enable push notifications” is checked (it sits just below the consent checkboxes; scroll down if you don’t see it). Checking it will restart the setup on your current device if needed.
- Do you see a “Notifications blocked” message? This usually means notifications are turned off in your browser’s settings or in your device’s system settings for that browser. Check both, then try again. On an iPhone with the Home Screen app: go to iPhone Settings, then Notifications, then LookLook, and turn Allow Notifications on.
- Did you sign out? Signing out turns off notifications on that device for your privacy. Sign back in and they resume automatically.
- Using more than one device? Each device is set up separately. Repeat the steps on each one.
- iPhone only: did you tap “Don’t Allow” when your iPhone asked? Apple only asks once. To fix it: delete the LookLook icon from your Home Screen, then follow the iPhone steps above from the beginning.
